Future music festival

Future was fucking amazing. We started drinking our beers and vodka at 11am, and the whole day was like walking around in a cloud. A base-dunking one, oh heavenly. The sun stood strong and burned skin, the sweat and dance was all around and the artists was great. My main act was Knife party, but I also managed to see Macklemore, Paul kalkbrenner, Porter Robinson, deadmau5, Tinie tempah  and a few names I don't remember. Missed Paul van dyk and Dubfire, but the lineup was too good to manage everything in one day. They should've just put it on a two day festival instead goddamnit

Anyway. Stood in front row on Knife party, my head was jumping and my heart was beating like never before. Fuck you Knife party, your beats are too good for my health. Dance til you drop must be the line of my life

Lazy

I'm very sorry but I've felt so lazy lately. I do have stuff to write about, but for some reason I just feel too lazy to put it down. I also want to save the pictures for when I properly explain that day aswell, so atm I'll just give you these selfies fom the morning visit to Balmore beach 8am.

Manly nigiri Manly nigiri

Went driving around Manly and areas around yesterday. The weather was quite shitty as it has been rainy for last week, but I got to see some spots at least. The natures wet face is another kind of beauty I'm incredible grateful for aswell, it is amazing to feel the earth drink the heavens to sprout new life.

Stopped at the local sushi shop and tried out some glazed scallop and king crab nigiri.
Oh god, I've forgotten how good scallop tastes when slightly burnt on top <3

Kindergarten cooking class

Held a cooking class for Lennox kindergarten today (Lennox is my sis's kid). Mum started with making masaman curry and chicken fried rice, and I showed them how to make coconut chocolate balls (of course I get to do the chocolate stuff :P). The kids are obviously too young to actually learn how to cook but the teachers described what was happening in a very good educational way so hopefully they learnt something small :)

When we came back home both mum and sis fell asleep in the living room while I was busy making gyoza dumplings haha!

A little taste of Italy

I was drinking some with my sis and a couple of Filipinos last night. Stayed up very late like usual and then woke up early in the morning again, unable to sleep. Again.

My lack of sleep is starting to get ridiculous, it's been like 1,5 months since my travel (and lack of sleep) started. I wake up early in the morning for the cause of sleeping early aswell, but somehow I end up not sleepy until late... and then it goes again.

Anyway, today I've been ridiculously tired all day. Like, sleepy tired. We went for lunch at a Italian place and had some spinach/ricotta ravioli with creamy pesto sauce, the thickest cheesy garlic bruschetta I've seen, caramel/chocolate ganache wih vanilla ice cream and tiramisu. Nice yeah, even though I eat spinach/ricotta ravioli every time I have pasta where I live in Malta lol. My excuse is that I've been out traveling for 1,5 months now alright, I'm allowed to have Italian

Singapore airport

Have been busy working for my sister since I arrived to Australia. I mean busy as waking up, working until bedtime, getting about 5h sleep and wake up for more kitchen preparation. My sister is selling food at a concert, for which 19 000 tickets has been sold. Bruce Springsteen, you womanizer! We've got SHITLOADS of differents pring rolls, chicken skewers etc now. Thousands, made by the hands of the Chailom women (yeah, that's my surname).

Has obviously not been out and around so much, been spending all time in the kitchen and that's not very interesting atm so I'll give you guys a peek on how Singapore's departure hall looks like. It it impressive

Taipei Taipei

Safely arrived in Sydney, or actually Singleton, on tuesday. I flew from Taipei with a transit in Singapore, where they announced a delay of three extra hours... Which meant like, 8hrs of dead time in the airport. I was really impressed of Singapore's airport, but 8 hours was a bit over the top. Oh well, thought I could spend some time food researching so I went to subway, had a GORGEOUS tunamayo sub (I love subway more than any other chain in the world, but never eat there), then tried a sardine sandwhich, then the Singaporean dish chicken and rice. I'll have to try it again outside the airport though, cuz that one was one of the poorest meals I've ever bought in my life. It was like, nothing. And dry. And the service-mind of the catering staff was... Not there. Alright, it was after midnight, but c'mon, 95% of the people was obviously VERY bothered by the customers. No smiles. Sighs and rolling eyes. The airport was great, but the service was low, I have to say (at least the service around the food court). Or maybe it was my face

Sharing some Taipei pictures, had a bit time to stroll around before going to the airport. Pretty! Sunny! Bubble teas! I need to come back and give Taiwan a better chance at some point.

Taiwan

Alright. Japan resisted to the end with letting me go by delaying my flight to Taipei, but finally, I made it!!

As I stayed at Kansai airport hotel with a bfast buffet closing at 9.30, I had lots of time preparing for the flight (which departed 16.40). I then slept through the full flight and landed about 18.40-something. In Taipei. Chaos

I've gotten used to the organized and shy people of japan, and was now facing shouting people (alright, loud language) queues that wasn't really a line, no one gave me an arrival card for the immigration so I had to go back the line again, buses was confusing, where's the english etc etc. In the end, I think I was just so confused cuz I didn't eat or drink anything on like, 7-8hrs.

Somehow got hold of Nick who've been living in Taipei for 4 years. Great guy! I'm really sad we didn't get more time together, but the world is small :) We stumbled into a lantern festival, really pretty, saw a band playing, then went to Shilin night market for some tastes of Taiwan. I felt like home with the street food stands before even going inside the actual market.

I bought quite much. My weakness is these stands, I can go crazy and buy all sizzling things I see. I got some kind of blood-marinated stuff (or I don't know actually???), hundred kilos of fruits (alright, just a lot) and chicken feet. I never really thought eating chicken feet would be a tasty experience, it's just skin and bones after all, but I wanted to at least try. I was freaked out, but I did it and I never chewed any toes I tell you

Biggest sausages ever

Self-admiration

Today, I painted my nails for the first time in.. I don't remember last time. One year? Two years? I have no idea.

While I was inhaling the smell of nail polish, I realized how fucking beautiful nails I've got naturally. They get long, they have good shape, people actually pay shitloads for getting this look in acrylic plastic or whatever they use. Together with my ability to easily grow long hair, what a lucky girl I am. But I guess I need those things to  be able to state that I'm still a woman, hahaha I sound more like a man when I open my mouth lol

Sorry for this weird post. It just popped up in my head. Now, I want to cook some Japanese hotpot, drink beer and practice my tamagoyaki skills (and eat tons of bread with it). Oh Tanya is hungry again

Sorry for the weird change of colors in the pictures!

Back in Osaka

Since my flight got canceled yesterday, I'm still stuck in Osaka. Booked a new flight to Taiwan today, but to the south airport which means I'll get to ride through all of Taiwan to get to Taipei. The weather is hopefully nice and I'll get to see somet aiwanese landscapes. It completely sucked yesterday, but it really helps focusing on the good things instead ^_^

A pic of my saviour from last night. Me and my friend ran to catch the last train, but for some stupid reason I took it to the wrong direction. Lol

Nigiri feast and chocolate truffles

My last night at the ryokan. We had a feast! I made kanpachi and salmon nigiri, some soup and then helped the daughter of the house to make her valentines chocolate. Since there was no real chocolate-making equipment, I decided to just make easy truffles, but I have to say the household was fairly impressed. I just bit my tounge and kept he curses for myself, but I've learnt to appreciate what they see rather than what I see. I've understood that perfect is easier to reach in other eyes, especially for a family who doesn't usually make desserts, so I'm all really happy and grateful for their appreciation :)

Tomorrow, I'll leave Beppu early for Taiwan. Japan has been nice, but I can't deny that the weather here really sucks this time of the year. I've been missing Malta more and more, everyone seems to upload lovely, sunny pictures of Malta and I'm just like, I belong there. I belong in the sun and in the beaches. But time will come soon, in a week I'll leave Taiwan for summer time Australia and it'll all be glorious ;)

Chocolate sauce burger and chocolate dip fries

Exactly as the title says, I just had the strangest burger. The burger chain Lotteria has a February only deal when they're serving this burger with chocolate sauce inside (also a mustard dressing, what the hell?). They also serve French fries with a chocolate-sauce filled biscuit tart to dip in. And of course I had both, I can't let this weirdness pass me by. I even considered ordering a chocolate milkshake for it, but realized in the final moment it was over the top so I just had a strawberry one.

Let me say... Well, it wasn't utterly disgusting. Remember the chocolate chips I had before in Kobe? Well, those worked together better, but I mean, it was edible. Maybe not the brightest of all flavor combinations, but a fun valentines month thing to dare people with I guess.

Another special thing is that this is the only burger I've bought except for McDonald's cheeseburgers (also tried Teriyaki and prawn burger here in Japan, once) and I have to say that Lotteria knows the deal. Between the bread and mustard dressing (and very artificial chocolate sauce) was a breaded chicken piece so juicy the liquid just overflowed when biting. Screw all those dry beef patties and chicken breast burgers, this is the shit. It was a epic sight in between the weirdness, I'm still not into burgers but bring me another strange one and I'll eat it.

The ryokan

So. Tonight, I'll spend the first night in YamadaBessou, one of the oldest ryokan in Beppu.its family run, and I'll stay there for free, but help out. Already helped them make sushi yesterday, and I got to practice my tamagoyaki skills!!!!! I'm so happy for that, tamagoyaki is so much fucking fun!!!!

This is the ryokan,a net he outdoor spa (onsen). I can't leave japan before trying it out at least once, but when I watch it I really don't feel like getting in. I'm a fucking cat :(

Today's market

So, today I woke up at my friend's place in kita-ku, had some natto bfast (can't imagine living without that either) and then we went to a market. Loads of fish and seafood stuff, which I documented, maybe a bit too much. Different mochi and snacks aswell, for me this is pure interest and warmth at heart, but it's probably shitloads of boring stuff for normal people.

Anyhows, spent around 5 hours of walking around Sannomiya after that, ate some sweet potato tayaki and tamago onigiri and just killed time. Later, we went to a shabu-shabu and yakiniku restaurNt and got our meat cravings filled. We paid a certain amount (this case 2000yen=€14) and then we were free to order how many refills we wanted of both veg and meats. Good deal I have to say, Japanese style of eating out differs a lot from eating out in west. It's more of a play, you kind of make your own dining experience rather than having everything already planned and given right on your front door. I love the Japanese cuisine more and more for every day, and I can't imagine living without my soba or natto bfasts anymore.

Stomach pains, leg pains, shoulder pains

Woke up today and felt like living hell. Backside of my legs were so sore that I seriously almost couldn't stand up, even less walk. My shoulders was hurting, but the worst was my stomach. I was at hospital for four days in December for acute stomach pains, which later was shown to be caused by some virus. I woke up around 7am today with same kind of pains, and all I could think about was just why, oh whyyyyy.

It took away my appetite completely, and first around 7pm I managed to get myself some soba noodle soup. I'd probably eaten earlier if it wasn't so that my body was completely trashed and hurting everywhere. Anyways, stomach a bit better now (still not good though) and I just hope it'll be going away for tomorrow. Japaneese people, well me too, seems to love undercooked eggs. That might maybe be a reason, but then lots and lots of people here would get sick all the time no?

Since I stayed in coma inside today, I don't really have any pictures to show you, except the soba noodle picture. I give you pics from Monday jan 20th instead, enjoy!

Tomato ramen soup!

Psy in Chiba, Kobe beef

Yes. So I went to this psy, about 1,5h outside central Tokyo, and had a beautiful night. We danced, watched snow fall around a campfire, danced a bit more and loved the morning light until lunchtime the Sunday after, when we finally drove back to leave me at the Shinkansen station with a friend from the party. Impulsive decisions feels so exciting when traveling without plans.

At the event, I met people who was willing to open up and share their family life with me if I wanted to stay in Tokyo. An au pair thing I would call it, which I greatly, oh god you don't know how much, appreciated with all my heart. But.

I feel in need of a rest. I haven't been relaxing at all since I woke up that departure day, and Im started to feel worn. So when I got the offer to go down west to Osaka (Kobe), I took it. Tokyo in all great might, but somehow, south did give me this more relaxed feeling of thought. So I went.

And here I am, being guided around by two soul family members, who unfortunately can't be with me much more these coming 5-7days. But I'm sure I'll manage with a bit help of couchsurfing.org.

I would't forgive myself if I forgot to write about my meeting with Kobe beef as a introduction to the city. I tried it in the dish Sukiyaki, which means the meat and veg is cooked in the middle of the table together with soy and a dashi/konbu stock, then dipped in a raw, whisked egg before putting it in your mouth. Kobe beef was more amazing than I ever imagined. The thin slice of meat literally melted in the mouth. I'm not kidding, it MELTED away. It is a very fatty slice you got, all deliciousness amazingly marbled into the meat and oh boy, that's an illegally sexy texture you have. Does fat sound disgusting? Try it if you can. It'll be worth those extra calories. Try it in a real japaneese way (whatever you choose that to be). Just go. Now

Look at that marbling. Just look at it. Can you imagine how it feels when those fat molecules is heaten up between the protein ones? It falls apart from the lightest bite, and it will make you sigh of culinary beauty.

Travel plans

Hi there. As usual, I don't really update during my normal days of living. Working and partying is the only things I do when I don't travel, and I don't really see any purpose of uploading it here. Anyways, traveling times soon ahead and this blog will get filled with yet another destination :)

At the moment, I'm thinking about either South Africa, Central America or Thailand again. The last named is always a safe card, and I can stay out in my backpack for longer. Would love to see something new though, as Central America. They also host a psytrance festival I would like to visit. I know nothing about that area though, currency, people, anything, and since I'm traveling alone.. It's a little bit scary to be honest. Just a bit. Then we have South Africa, western cape around Cape town to be more correct. The southern hemisphere has summer now, so it would be lovely to spend some more time there. My last 9 days there wasn't really enough, it was truly beautiful. I'm trying trying to decide, but I want to experience so much at the same time. Need to book soon. Goddamnit, world, why are you so amazingly stunning?

South Africa, and of course the bars.

SA is awesome. To be more accurate, I'm staying in a student town called Stellenbosch, like 1h from the Cape town? The weather is the same as of a swedish hot summer with dry, cool air. But then, here winter just ended lol.

I've been walking around in Stellenbosch, mostly to the local shopping mall, found some books and the amazing Food lovers market. Well yes, I'm exaggerating a bit about that supermarket, but HELL I LOVE FOOOOOD!!!!! Been taking pictures of stupid daily stuff and students and the buildings, haven't been out in ''real nature'' yet so I just have everyday pictures.

Bars here in Stellenbosch is simply AWESOME. Almost all I've been in is decorated rockish, and weird stuff is hanging on the walls (like Cafe Jubilee in Malta). Like sleazier versions of Hard rock Cafe in St Julians, more worn out, more personality. I love it. Especially Mystic and Bohemia (You guys from Malta, think of Playground but move the music to a rock style bar instead). Even the layout on the bars is awesome, weird entrances to the different rooms, very much playing with the floor differences and open air. Steps here and there, it's like a playground for drunk grown-ups. For me. I want to take my camera and photograph the places, remember them, but unfortunately, bringing out a system camera to drink isn't a too good idea. GOSH I love the style of theese places.

Yeah, since one of my main hobbies is drinking beer, I do go out a lot on the bars. But hell, I don't care.

Here comes some pictures I randomly took when walking. Nothing special,
just everyday life and probably boring as shit for citizens of Stellenbosch.

Pizza with avocado on top!!!!!!!!!! Oh I'm a food pervert YESSSSSSSSSSSS

Finally

Went to a friend and cooked some midnight omelet last night. Then I finally drew again. For the first time in a year-ish. It felt like I'd forgotten some of the feeling and shading techniques, but damn it felt good. I need to take more time to draw again, seriously. Luckily (well..), we got the malteese winter incoming...
